Established in 1909, Calvi Electric Company is the oldest electrical contracting company operating in the Atlantic City area. For over 100 years Calvi has earned an extraordinary reputation for excellence as the region’s premier electrical contractor serving major commercial, industrial and institutional clients.

From our modest start as a neighborhood electrical shop to our present status as an industry leader, Calvi has consistently grown and expanded its professional and technical capabilities in an ever-evolving industry to meet and exceed the electrical contracting requirements of the clients we serve. Most notably, Calvi is known for providing and installing the electrical equipment that lights the casinos, hotels and condominiums that make-up the glowing, world-famous contemporary Atlantic City skyline.

Lighting the Way Since Back in the Day

1909 – Joseph Calvi Sr. opens a small electrical shop in Philadelphia.  Since he
was born in Naples, Italy, the company
founder learned the basics of the relatively
new electrical industry in his native country
and applied that knowledge and vision for the future to the business he started shortly after arriving in the United States.

1919 – Joseph Calvi moved his growing business to Hammonton, NJ

1920 – Calvi successfully completes
major contracts in Atlantic City as part of
the “Golden Jubilee of Lighting,” celebrating
the 50th Anniversary of the then
world-famous Boardwalk

1929 – Calvi headquarters moved to
Atlantic City

1946 – Joseph Calvi’s sons, Joseph Jr, Francis and Charles, all thoroughly trained in electrical contracting and technical fields, join the established firm, ushering a period of substantial growth in the business

1961 – Joseph Calvi Sr, who remained active in the company, passed away

1962 – Joseph H. Calvi Jr. leaves to start a local electric company; Charles Calvi becomes Vice President

1966 – Calvi headquarters moves to its current location at 14 S. California Ave, in the Heart of Atlantic City
Joseph H. Calvi returns as Secretary/Treasurer

1967 – George Brestle joins the company, serving an apprenticeship and working in
the field before becoming Service Manager/Office Manager

1975 – Joseph H Calvi retires and George Brestle becomes Secretary/Treasurer
Charles Bauernhuber starts as field estimator and Deborah McAuliffe starts as

1983 – Francis Calvi passes away; his son Michael serves as interim President

1984 – George Brestle and Brian C Soule become President and Excecutive Vice President

1985 – Charles Calvi retires

1995 – Joseph Martin joins the firm as
Director of Purchasing Michael Brestle starts apprentice training

2006 – Brian Soule passes away;
Charles Bauenhuber becomes Executive
